MEET SHARYN, OUR SMSF AUDIT MANAGER

24 April 2024

Introducing Sharyn

Meet Sharyn, SMSF Audit Manager at Superannuation Audit Services. Sharyn joined the firm in 2005 and has a wealth of experience in the field. Find out what led her to this career, her favourite Melbourne spots and advice she has for a smooth SMSF auditing process.

What sparked your interest in accounting?

My interest in accounting was sparked in high school. From year 11 accounting and economics were my favourite subjects and I never even considered working in any other field.

Your favourite Melbourne dining spots?

I have many favourite restaurants in Melbourne (there are so many to choose from) - Hanoi Hannah, Rupert on Rupert.  Relaxed pub meals are great, such as from the Terminus in Abbotsford.

On a day off we'll find you doing...

I love to have brunch/lunch catch-up with some family and friends. When I get the time, I also really enjoy sewing.

What key thing your clients can do to make the SMSF process easier?

Supply all relevant documents. This saves lots of time if we are not going back and forth requesting relevant support documents, making the audit process seamless and efficient.

What do you enjoy most about your role and the team you work with?

I enjoy the variety the role brings as not only do super funds vary, but also as we work for various accountants so we need to adapt to their methods of preparation. I also love the team I work with as it is a good balance of a family-like environment as well as maintaining professionalism. We are all focused on client satisfaction within an enjoyable atmosphere. It’s a bonus to work with a group that you also consider to be close friends.

Outside of work, what are your interests or hobbies that keep you busy in your free time?

When I get time I love to go to the beach, sit under an umbrella and read a good book, eat out with friends and family and I enjoy walking around nearby parks and entertaining friends and family.

What's your top piece of advice for someone considering a career in SMSF auditing?

My advice would be if you are particular with detail and enjoy a challenge it is a great, varied job.

Can you name one word or phrase that best represents your approach to work in SMSF auditing?

Attention to detail.

What's your vision for the future of SMSF auditing, and how do you see Superannuation Audit Services contributing to it?
